American Chop Suey

AKA ~ Goulash

Well, I set some beans t'saokin for to make some red beans & rice this weekend ... but in the meantime I whipped up a skillet full of good ol' midwestern goulash. Whoooboy, I was the first one to the table when mama made this when I was a kid ~ still one of my favorite comfort foods.

I had several people ask for this recipe, and as y'all know, homie don't do recipes ... but here's the quick gestalt: boil a 1/2 bag maccaroni, drain. Brown a couple pounds good lean hamburger then add a chopped onion and a chopped green pepper and some fresh garlic, season with salt & pepper and some herbage (I added some oregano and basil) then add a couple jars yer favorite pasta/tomato sauce (I used Newmans Fra Diavolo, and I also added a snort of Cajun Power garlic sauce) ... simmer for a few minutes then add the cooked maccaroni & simmer for a few more minutes. Done. And don't be putting no catsup in this, ya heah??

  2. Darn, no catsup? What is this world coming to? Seriously, it does remind me of a similar dish that my mother made in the 1950s/60s. Likewise, it was one of my favorites.
