Slingin' Hash

Made some hash for Sunday breakfast ~ chunky country-style hash, made with leftover flatiron shish kabobs, garden baby new potatoes, roasted red and green peppers, bermuda onions, sweet corn, fresh garlic, etc. For an ol' meat & potatoes hash slinger like me, this is about as good as it gits.

What's A PoBoy Gonna Do...

To cool off on a hot Sunday afternoon is July, huhhh?? Sit out on the front porch in the shade listening to the baseball game & eat some ice-cold watermelon, dat's what! God Bless America.

Old Timey Sunday Tune

In the deep rolling hills of old Virginia
There's a place I love so well
Where I spent many days of my childhood
In the cabin where we loved to dwell

Chorus
White dove will mourn in sorrow
The willows will hang their head
I live my life in sorrow
Since mother and daddy are dead

We were all so happy there together
In our peaceful little country home
But the Saviour needs Angels up in Heaven
Now they sing around the Great White Throne

Chorus

As the years roll by I often wonder
If we'll all be together someday
And each night as I wander through the graveyard
Darkness finds me as I kneel to pray

Mama's Folly

This is my Mom ~ she had a lil' country cafe when I was growing up, and this is some press she got back in the 60's when she moved an old log cabin in to town & set it right next to her cafe. The old cabin was built in 1863 by early pioneers who settled on land that was eventually bought by my great grandfather T.I. Eddy & became part of Savannah. That little country cafe is where I learned how to cook ... and the Blue Willow Buffalo China plates that Mom used in that cafe (for her daily blue plate *meat & three* specials) are the very same plates that I use for my everyday china today.

Summer's Bounty

Went out to a couple of farmer's veggie stands today ~ scored a bunch of fresh garden veggies and fruits, sweet corn, melons, homegrown tomatoes, cukes, bermuda onions, nice ripe peaches, blackberries, new potatoes, beets, and more. This is one of my favorite summer salads ~ I learned to make it from an old Greek guy that I used to work for, name Zinny Leonida. He just called it Greek Salad ~ cukes, tomatoes, onions, garlic, lemon, oregano, salt, black pepper, sugar, vinegar, EVOO ... all in perfect harmony.

These big fat plump, sweet blackberries were just hand picked yesterday evening. They're gonna be homemade blackberry jam tomorrow, ah garrontee!!
